As per the rules codified by NFL for its matches, the game can be begun by snapping the ball. A quarterback player throws the ball to a player in front of him from the line of scrimmage. This player will snap the ball under his legs and return to the quarterback. The quarterback proceeds with the game by throwing the ball or handing it off or even running with it himself. The offense has two ways of advancing the ball. One is run and for this the quarterback has to hand the ball to the running back player. The running back player has to elude the defense players and gain maximum yards possible. The 2nd way is for the quarterback to run with the ball and gain maximum yardage.
To be successful in NFL matches it is very important for the players to learn to pass the ball. To gain maximum yardage the players need to throw the ball or pass it to their other team members. The quarterback usually does the passing but other players too are allowed to do it provided they are behind the line of scrimmage. The pass is considered complete only if a player from the offense team catches it either the wide receiver or the tight end.
